Introduction
Welcome to RamSoft software
The contents of the manual have been grouped into several sections. Each section pertains to a certain set of tasks that are usually associated with a specific type of user. The contents of each section can be read through in detail or the search tool can be used to find answers to specific questions.
The first section of the manual is System Configuration & Customization. This section describes how to initially configure the RamSoft software and how to tailor it to the needs of the facility. After a new installation has been carried out, this section of the manual should be read. Any topics that apply to the site, should be analyzed in detail and the described options should be utilized in order to tailor the software to the sites' needs.
Once a system has been installed and properly configured, it can begin functioning. The Finding & Organizing Data section of the manual describes how patient and study data can be located within the system.
Passwords have to be periodically changed in order to avoid using compromised login credentials. The How Do I Change My Password? section covers this task in more detail.
The PACS has to exchange information with modalities, other DICOM stations and DICOM printers to name but a few. Each one of these products has a different job to do and chances are, was created by a different manufacturer. Even though standards exist for exchanging information, this exchange is not always perfect. Due to manufacturer incompatibilities or operator error, problems will arise. Due to this, Quality Control work has to be performed before the patient data is ready to be used. The Quality Control section provides instructions for how to perform a number of quality control tasks commonly necessary in the medical imaging environment.
The RamSoft software has been designed to be configured during the installation and to be fully self-sufficient afterwards. The system runs nightly backups and maintenance activities. It automatically archives studies as needed and prevents the main storage disks from filling up. If configured properly, it is able to run with very minimal user maintenance. However, it is important for technical and administrative users to monitor the system periodically, in order to ensure that all system and user tasks are being performed. The administrative user can also monitor user activity throughout the system. These facilities are described in the Monitoring the System section.
The Advanced System Configuration area provides information on a variety of features and settings that can be customized in order to enhance the user experience.
