How Do I Manage Local Services?
In RamSoft PACS 4.6, the Local Services refer to the six services that are used by RamSoft to perform different tasks. The Local Services menu can be accessed from the Services > Local Services menu. This menu provides the user with four options. The Setup option launches the Service Setup dialog. The Restart option restarts the local services. The Start option starts Local Services, and the Stop option stops Local Services.
The following table provides a listing and a brief description of each of the services used by RamSoft.
| Service | Default Status | Service Description |
|---|---|---|
| RamSoft Tasks | Manual | This service controls five tasks. If there are any entries in the system which need to be exported, it runs the Backup Log task to export these items to a CSV file. It uses the Auto Purge task to purge studies as per user-defined rules. It compresses image data based on user-defined rules by using the Auto Compression task. The service also performs a Database Backup and runs a Database Sweep on a nightly basis. |
| RamSoft DICOM | Manual | This service is responsible for DICOM communication. It listens for DICOM query requests and for any incoming DICOM data. It is also responsible for sending DICOM information to remote locations. This service also controls the compression negotiation processes for sending and receiving DICOM data. |
| RamSoft HL7 | Disabled | This service is responsible for HL7 communication. It listens for any incoming HL7 messages and is responsible for sending these messages to remote machines. By default it is disabled as it is only required for installations where a custom HL7 interface has been created. |
| RamSoft Guardian | Automatic | This service is responsible for keeping all the other RamSoft services up and running. When a machine boots up only this service is started automatically. It then manually launches all the RamSoft services described above. It also periodically monitors them to ensure that they are up and running. If any service has gone down, the Guardian re-launches it. |
| World Wide Web Publishing | Automatic | This service is required to serve the required web pages PowerReader clients use to access the server. It is also necessary to send image data to the clients and any updates back to the server. This is a windows service and is not controlled by the Guardian service. |
| Replication Service | Manual | This service is used to send image data directly to the PowerCache. This service allows one station to directly send the image data to the other station without having to go through another application like a PowerServer. |
| Report Distribution Service | Manual | This service allows automatic or manual faxing and emailing of reports. |
