How Do I Set Up the Receive Compression Negotiation?
Before any two stations exchange DICOM data, they have to negotiate the best method for the transfer. This is done by each side presenting its possible transfer methods until a match is made. This process is known as Transfer Syntax Negotiation. The sender dictates the order in which the syntaxes are negotiated. However, the receiving station gets to present a list of its preferred choices. The list presented by the RamSoft software can be modified through the Compression dialog. This dialog is launched by clicking Settings > Server Settings > Compression > DICOM Communication/Import tab.
The order with which the RamSoft station will negotiate Transfer Syntaxes is determined on this tab. Compression 1 will be proposed first. If that is not accepted, Compression 2 and later Compression 3 would be proposed. Due to the structure of the DICOM messages, the receive compression negotiation settings are global. It means that this list is presented to all DICOM stations that attempt to send data to the RamSoft stations.
The default order presented by RamSoft is Lossless, Uncompressed and Lossy.
