Advanced System Configuration

This section contains instructions for how to customize a variety of system settings.

If users are complaining about image pixilation or if the hardware being used is taking a long time loading up images for display purposes, the interpolation scheme used for the display of images can be modified. The How Can I Change Image Interpolation Quality? section describes the interpolation algorithms used by the software and how to switch between them.

The software contains predefined lists of commonly used body parts, image annotations and study descriptions. These lists allow users to simply select the desired entry instead of manually typing in the data. These lists are available as drop-down menus in several locations in the software. The contents of each list can be edited in order to suit the facility. The sections How Do I Modify the Default List of Annotations?, How Do I Modify the Default List of Body Parts? and How Do I Modify the Default List of Study Types? explain how these modifications may be performed.

Medical displays are typically calibrated using automatic calibration software. These displays do not require additional gamma correction through Microsoft Windows. Commercial color displays do not have such tools available, but may be calibrated manually. The RamSoft software contains a Gamma Correction tool that can be used for this purpose.

When study images are displayed in the RamSoft software, they can be overlayed with annotations. These annotations display various DICOM tags, such as Patient Name and Patient ID. By default, the software displays a default set of annotations over each image, in order to associate each image with its series, study and patient. These default values can be modified. The details can be found in the Image Annotations section.

The RamSoft software provides the ability to create Microsoft Word Reports from templates which can be associated with a study. The software comes with a set of four default templates. These templates can be tailored to a sites' needs or new ones can be created. The details of how to create these templates can be found in the Creating Microsoft Word Templates section.

Throughout the software there are numerous dialog windows. As users use the software, they will start customizing the size and location of these dialogs. Sometimes this can produce results such as a dialog lost off the screen after a monitor resolution change or in a number of unwanted dialog settings.

The software contains a wide variety of variables that are used throughout the RamSoft software. Many of these items may be accessed and modified through other screens within the software. However, it is very useful to have all these settings grouped in one location. The System Configuration Menu provides access to all of these variables in a single place.

The final section in the Advanced System Configuration area of the manual deals with integrated software. RamSoft has integrated with several specialty software packages. If any of these packages are installed at a site, information on how to configure the RamSoft software in order to work with them can be found in the Integration chapter.
