How Do I Set Up DICOM Communication?

The RamSoft software supports two way DICOM communication. It is capable of serving and performing DICOM queries and DICOM Worklist queries. The software is also capable of communicating with DICOM printers. However, RamSoft systems are not promiscuous. This means that they will not communicate with any DICOM station, that has not been explicitly identified as a safe station. (However, during installation, if the software has been installed by default in promiscuous mode, the RamSoft software will communicate with all stations). In order to identify a station you will need the AE Title information for that station, its IP address, and the port(s) that it uses for DICOM communication. Once you have that information, follow the procedure for Adding New DICOM Station. Once a station has been added, communication can begin.

After communication has been established, connectivity verification can be done any time by using the connection test feature. This utility uses the DICOM ping command in order to verify connectivity between two stations. The software also contains a DICOM Heartbeat option which will automatically monitor the connectivity and ensure that all communication occurs smoothly.

This section also covers the communication monitoring logs the RamSoft software provides the user. Details on these can be found in the related topics section below.

The last topic in this section covers the configuration of preferred transfer syntaxes used for negotiation for any incoming DICOM communication. The details of this can be found in How Do I Set Up the Receive Compression Negotiation?
