Viewing Protocol Toolbar
When a study is opened, a viewing protocol is selected according to the study's scheduled modality, body part, and the number of monitors over which the study is viewed.
Multiple protocols can be created for the same modality and body part combination. Consequently, multiple protocols may match the currently viewed study. In such case, the user's preferred protocol is chosen by default.
If the radiologist does not like the default protocol chosen, another protocol can be applied by selecting it from the drop-down menu in the Viewing Protocols toolbar. The drop-down contains a list of all protocols that can be applied to the currently opened study. Any protocol selected from the list are automatically applied. When another study of the same type is opened, it will reset to the default protocol.
The Viewing protocol setting options are available in the Viewing protocol settings drop-down menu in the study desktop toolbar.
After making changes, the current layout can be saved as a protocol by clicking the Viewing Protocol Settings tool in the toolbar and choosing Save Current Layout as Protocol.
Viewing protocol setup information can be viewed by selecting the View Viewing Protocol's Details menu option. The Viewing Protocol Setup form allows the configuration of the Viewing protocol settings and displays the layout information along with the display preferences for the current viewing protocol.
The Hanging Protocol dropdown is not refreshed when a user simply double clicks on the thumbnail to open a frameset to the current active viewport. The drop-down is repopulated based on the opened study when the user clicks on the "Open this study" button on the Study Thumbnail.
If a special case comes up where some manual adjustments to the screen layout or system behavior were made, the default protocol appearance and behavior can be easily restored. This is done by clicking the Viewing protocols settings tool in the toolbar and choosing the Refresh Current Protocol menu item.
To save the changes which have been applied "on the fly" to a Viewing Protocol, click the Viewing Protocols tool in the toolbar and choose the Update Current Protocol menu item.
To create a new Protocol for the current study through the Wizard, click Viewing Protocol Settings icon > Edit Current Protocol via Wizard. This option only allows the user to view the details in protocol of the currently selected study.
The Learn Protocol Layout option learns the Series information of the current study and associates this series to the current viewing protocol. It populates this information by adding a new series with matching criteria in the Series tab of the Viewing Protocol Setup form.
Once you have seen viewing protocols in action and would like to create some new ones or perform some other more advanced tasks, the related topics below will provide further information.
Default Viewing Protocol:
-
Only users with administrator privileges can modify a default viewing protocol.
-
A user without administrator privileges cannot modify an existing default protocol directly. Instead, a new instance of the default protocol with the user's desired changes is saved under My Protocols. The new protocol can be set as the Preferred Protocol if desired; if the default protocol was the Preferred Protocol, the new protocol becomes the Preferred Protocol.
