How Do I Configure Worklist Alerts?

Alert Settings prompts the users and/or administrators whenever a study status overstays beyond the defined threshold level. Only administrators are privileged to access this screen.

Click Settings > Server Settings > Alerts.

The alert mechanism is triggered based on the value of the Source Facility, Priority, From Status, To Status, and Time Threshold (min). Alerts are restricted to the users belonging to the role and group defined by the rule. Alerts are created for studies which match every setting specified. Selecting a different status in the From Status field and To Status field will match all statuses between the two. Once a study moves out of the defined status range, the rule will no longer apply to the study.

There are three configuration settings for Alerts in the System Configuration.

Type "Alert" in the Search Configuration items text field. While you type, the typed text matches matches with the database and gets filtered. As a result, you could find the searched result on the screen immediately.

Alert Refresh Interval (s)This controls how frequent the system refreshes the list of studies containing alerts.
Alert Setting Study Count of Each ProcessThe maximum number of alert studies allowed in each database transaction. It is set to 500, but it can be changed by the user.
Alert Setting Task Timer Resolution (min)The task timer is used to control how frequent the system checks to see if there have been changes to any alert settings. If this value is set to 10 minutes, it is possible to create an alert and not see any alerts for that setting for 9 minutes due to the wait time.
  1. Click Settings > Server Settings > Alerts. Alert Settings screen appears as shown above.
  2. Click New. The default values will automatically populate each field.
  3. Define the rules for the alert by selecting from the drop-down menus and select the values for each field.
  4. Enter a time duration in the Time Threshold field. The time duration must be in minutes. The threshold time defines the minutes a study can stay in a given status without raising an alert.
  5. Click Save.

Once an alert is created and one or more studies have triggered the Alert, there are two places the Alerts are visible. The first location is the Alert column in the Worklist. Alerts are displayed as an Warning Mark beside the studies which satisfy the alert criteria.

In order to see the alert column, it must be selected from the Worklist Column pull-down menu.

When studies are set to, or are in Alert mode, the application displays a popup prompting you that there are a specified number of new Alerts that needs to be attended to. This popup appears on the bottom right of the screen and prompting you how many studies have alerts.

The other location alerts are visible is in the viewer window. If a user is reading a study and an alert is triggered in the system, the alert button will begin flashing in the toolbar to notify the user an important study in the queue requires immediate attention. Clicking on the button will return the user to the Worklist. The Alert button is grayed and cannot be clicked if studies are not alerted.
